I am buying a new CHEAP laptop for the wife and I am not up on the comparisons between Intel and AMD anymore. They have gotten so far apart that the numbers are pointless now. Both laptops I am looking at are Toshibas. They have virtually the same specs except one has a T2330 processor and one has TK-55.

Is there really any difference in these processors? I would prefer to stay away from the fanboy speak. Personally I have always been an AMD fan (more bang for buck), but I know that hasn't always been the case as of late. I would appreciate any feed back on these two laptops. I will include links below.

T2330
TK-55

you wont notice a performance difference between the cpus. i would probably go with the amd because it has higher specs.

Fanboyism aside I typically steer people towards intel CPUs because they're so much better for desktops. I don't usually have much to do with laptops so I haven't really looked into the Turions much. What I will say though is that the Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo mobile CPUs are certainly quick and powerful.
Since the specification and price of both laptops is identical apart from the CPU, you may as well go with the Intel one.

I kinda figured they were pretty equal. I ended up finding a better deal at Dell for a TK-57 with 2GB of memory, though it only had an 80GB hard drive. Price was the same for the Dell and it had free shipping. Its for my wife, and she will never fill the 80GB let alone the 120 of the other two. Thanks again for the advice.

Sounds good. Dell laptops are well made but they do come with loads of unnecessary crap pre-installed.

I am used to uninstalling most of the preinstalled stuff. I also opted out of of as much of the software as possible. No MS Works, as I will install Office, no McAffee as I will install AVG. I also made sure to get Windows XP.
