How can a movie that came out before High Def, claim to be high def? For example terminator 2 is out on blu ray?? Isnt this impossible? I can see if they say upscaled to almost as good as HD, but it cant really be HD right?
Quote:Film is analog so there are no real "pixels." However, based on converted measures, a 35mm frame has 3 to 12 million pixels, depending on the stock, lens, and shooting conditions. An HD frame has 2 million pixels, measured using 1920 x 1080 scan lines. With this difference, 35mm appears vastly superior to HD.
Quote:35 mm original camera negative motion picture film can resolve up to 6,000 lines.
35 mm projection positive motion picture film has about 2,000 lines which results from the analog printing from the camera negative of an interpositive, and possibly an internegative, then a projection positive.
Sequences from newer films are scanned at 2,000, 4,000 or even 8,000 columns (line measured the other directions), called 2K, 4K and 8K, for quality visual effects editing on computers.
So when you have the original Terminator 2 35mm film - you have to "downconvert" it to 1080p to get your BluRay disc.
