i recently got a new asus pk5-e mobo and I ordered the wrong chipset ( a 478)
So now i need to return it and order an lga775 socket type so I have a small question since i'm new to the cpu compability thing.
Since i'm in a budget, I would like to get a pentium 4 for the time being. The Pentium 4 631 is an lga755 socket type. Is the socket type all i need to know so that the cpu will fit and work into my motherboard or are there other things I should know for the cpu to work on the mobo.

erm, the P5K-E is for socket 775 only. If you've got a 478 board it isn't a P5K-E.
The P4 631 will work in pretty much any 775 board, but if you're on such a tight budget, why did you get such a top end motherboard?

well for 3 reasons really.
1. my dell broke down and the model I have isn't being made anymore so i had to order new parts.
2. I'm on a budget right now but I will get a core duo in the near future but right now i'm interested in getting my pc running again since its been out of commission for around 2 months.
3. once i do get the core duo, the pentium is going to be a "hand me down" for my sisters pc since its a pretty old and she doesn't do any gaming so it would be perfect for her.

anyways thats what i needed o know, thanks for the info.

Even so, a board like a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L would be cheaper and just as effective.
