I have a new Dell vostro 400 PC with 2.6 GHz dual core processor that came with nvidia 8800 gt. From what I hear, the only thing overclockable on this rig is the video card. Do people bother underclocking with low intensive/webbrowsing activities in hope of saving electricity and life of card? Ofcoarse I'll want to overclock for games. I have a seperate hardware profile setup for gaming I configured from blackviper.com I select on bootup. It would be nice if each boot profile would remember individual videocard clock setting. I've used both rivatunner and ntune before. Should I use one of these. How about some easy to understand directions how to safely overclock. Also since It's a new PC, how can I go about stressing my system's various components for reliability? Alot of questions. Maybey someone can direct me to a reputable guide. Thanks Afterdawn members.

i cant help you on all of your questions but i can tell you that underclocking is not a commonly done thing and that DELL's cant bios OC so you'll need to use somthing like ntune or riva (i suggest the easier gui of ntune) and maybey isn't a word its maybe

riva tuner is probably the best but i think that ati tool is easier to use. you can create profiles so you can change the clock speeds at any time just by right clicking and selecting the profile from the icon in the system tray.

what makes riva better? Mabey it just has more features I don't need? How do I monitor temp? what is too hot? Do I need to consider speeding up fan on card?

atitool has a built in temperature program. you can use speed fan to control the fan speed. you will definitely need to do that because 8800gt's can get really hot.
