Is there a way to rip DVDs so that they're playable in Vista's Media Center and they retain the chapters so you can skip forward by chapter or go direct to a specific chapter?

I've tried several settings with CloneDVDmobile but it either produces a single file with no chapters or multiple files (one per chapter) but when Media Center just plays one file at a time and then ends - you have to play each chapter, one-by-one.

Thanks for the link. I've started to work my way through them.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing obvious to say which codec/file type retains chapter marks in a single file. Once I know that, it should be a doddle given the quantity and breadth of the help files on this site and linked from here.

Last night I was getting 404s from http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/

I still am this morning so I'm assuming it's not some transient thing.

The website appears to be down for me as well, perhaps bbmayo is doing some updating. In the mean time there are also some excellent guides here:

I'm still getting 404s from http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/ - I'm about to try the other recommendation. I still haven't found any references to a codec/player that retains chapter marks. Boo!

I have now: Matroska (MKV) files. I don't yet know if they'll play on Vista Media Center. I'll post my results in the other thread I started because I think it has a more obvious title.
