I am somewhat new to MAC software, having made the switch from PC about 6 months ago. My question pertains to subtitle .SRT or .SUB files that are downloaded along with AVI files.
An example is a movie like The Counterfeiters (JUST AN EXAMPLE). If you download the torrent of this film, you will get an .AVI file which can be converted via programs like TOAST but, the film is in German and the only way to understand it is to read the subtitles. Now the subtitles are contained in the download in the form of an .SRT file.
How, using MAC software, can one add these .SRT files to the .AVI file and create a watchable DVD on a DVD player? I have seen tutorials on how to view it over the computer by using VLC and other programs like that but, I would like to view it on my big screen TV and need to burn these subtitles to a DVD-R.
Apparently you haven't, because the second and third results from the Google search: "add subtitles to a Quicktime file" (no quotes) provide you the answer. Do you want me to rewrite what a simple Google search will answer?
The only program that burns subtitles to a DVD from a variety of formats (AVI, DivX, quicktime, etc...) that I could find is ffmpegX (it's compatible with Mac OS X Leopard and Intel machines).
