Well, I recently picked up a Fujitsu Lifebook B-2131 shyttop off a friend for free. Theres a password which I googled up (I think its called a CMOS or BIOS password), I can't do the pin or that little battery reseting thing because I can locate it. It doesn't have a Cd-drive nor a floopy, amazingly it's got a usb drive, so I was wondering if there was a way to make like a boot drive out of my usb or something? My desktop doesn't have a floppy. I can't get anywhere, the BIOS setup also requires a password before I can access it. Anyway can I get something to boot and just reset or something bypass the password ?

I think this topic goes here, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know what OS this is, and the password is part of hardware so please help.

3 Days, I advanced from 2.6 homebrew tetris and commercial UMDs to 2.71 Devhook Emulation to 1.5>3.02 OE-A, Its the golden age of hacking

Running Windows off a USB drive is technically possible but it's difficult, and if the laptop is so old that it has neither a CD-ROM drive or a floppy, it'll probably have USB1 ports, which are really slow and your OS will be very unpleasant to use. Realistically, I think you're better off leaving it.

Well I don't think that the OS on the jump drive will boot before the BIOS password?

That sounds a bit strange, usually you only need the BIOS password to access the BIOS. You could try asking Fujitsu about it but if it's that old they probably won't have any idea.

Lol, Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I do need the BIOS password to access the BIOS, which is why I can't really do anything, I also need the password before the OS can load, I've read that I need to find the CMOS battery and remove that so it would wipe out the password, but I don't know how to take it apart.

It would default it, not sure if it would reset it or not. Get the BIOS chip out then (you'll have to remove the main battery first).

Lol, alright. Any sort of guide, or do I have to experiment myself and hope I don't break it?

to be honest, all I can say is "remember where the screws went". Taking apart a laptop isn't easy, and I couldn't say where exactly the BIOS battery will be.

I wouldn't worry about breaking it. It isn't working now, and truthfully, the Lifebook belongs in a museum, not on someone's desktop. :)

Only if you absolutely have to in order to get at the rest of the PC. If there's another way of getting in, do that instead.

Well, I opened it sort of. Couldn't really open it since there were screws I couldn't remove obstructing the way, I couldn't locate anything, and also had a loose bit of something stuck in the ethernet card slot, so the card won't go in anymore. But its thankfully still in one peice, still boots up. Do you think a floppy will boot command prompt before the BIOS pass?

The BIOS precedes ALL operating systems, so I'm doubtful.

errrr.. and how is a boot floppy supposed to help when the device has NO FLOPPY DRIVE?

OP. I sort of remember these.. On the bottom of the case there should be a little flap with a screw. It's there on some models so you can replace the cmos battery should the need arise. Looking at the replacements for that model tho it seems they are soldered in.

I do remember scrapping a lot of these. Not good machines. The hdd fails and is very expensive to replace.

check under the right side of keyboard for a thin rounded rectangle with 2 wires as that is most likely the cmos battery.
