now you need to figure out whether your computers data transfer on the motherboard is IDE(also called ATA or called ATAPI, older) or SATA (more modern), based on that information you can find a writer that will work with your pc:)

unless you are looking for a BD-R burner (bluray) the burner you want should support all media types, DVD-R/+R/+RW/DL, this way you'll never be in a situation where you can't burn a disc:)

you also try and find a burner that supports lightscribe which although is not mandatory is a nice feature:)
something like this:D
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...lc.asp?CatId=89
you can also use ebay or newegg

thanks for the info. I am looking for sites mainly in the UK (sorry i didn't mention this before).I am looking for two types, one that is serial ATA and one that is just the normal plain old IDE. One more thing, is it possible to get an adapter that converts from IDE to ATA (or vice versa)?

Cheers

My local PC shop beats amazon every time on price for burners etc. I have a bad location with a postman who likes leaving packages on the doorstep.

Go talk to your local independent, or visit a nearby computer fair.. If near Manchester go to Bowlers (but know what you want and get a stack of disks while you are there to make the entrance fee worth paying.

better yet go to the junk yard:) most people will throw out their PC if its not turning on (dead PSU, crack MB and such).....if you to the right area in the dump you'll find stacks and stacks of computers.... most will have the RAM taken out along with HDD and such...but the drives for the most part are always there....take 10 and like 4-6 will work:)
