WD MyBook Failed?

I just bought a WD Mybook 500GB and came back to a wierd clicking or seeking sound. Does it mean that its failing.

So far it's been on for 6 hours backing up data. Its at 2 hours remaining. Only needs to back up about 150GB from an internal Maxtor Sata1 drive.
It looks like it's working fine. After it's done backing up, I am actually going to restore the data right back to the drive and run a test on the drive. Any specific test that you recommend? I just bought it so I can swap it out instantly. It would just be a pain because I would have to back up everything again.

Sounds like normal hard disk activity to me, some external drives are loud.

ya that sound is fine:) if you want to test for errors you can always
use the Microsoft "error checking", its quite good believe it or not, and data recovery specialist use it at both seagate and WD!




go my computer>right click on the drive in question> go properties> and to the tools tab

I've actually done that but with the chkdsk /r command in the recovery menu. It is very good!
