Hello,

I have just installed Nero 8.

Have looked at the manual for quite some time now but am unable to find answers to my questions.

How can I tell if any compression is taking place when I record something?

I see the word automatic come up when I try to burn something.
Does this mean that compession is taking place automatically?
Just like DVD Shrink?

Am in the process of purchasing a Hi Def. monitor and woule like to know how much compression is possible with out losing picture quality?

I do have an up upsampling player.
What can this do for me in regards to picture quality?

Thank you,

Since you mentioned DVD Shrink, I am assuming that you are talking about backing up DVDs using Nero(Recode)?

If the compression is set to "Automatic", this means that the software will compress the video/audio automatically, just enough to fit the target size. Is there any compression being done? Well, depends on the source, how large it is. If you backup just the main movie, and that is less than the size of disc, no compression is done.

The less you compress, the less quality you lose. If you have to compress too much, burn to a DL disc, or split the movie on two discs. Also, you can always get rid of menus, extras, credidt-just do the main movie; use the quality enhancement features when transcoding with a lot of compression.

Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!

Yes,

This is exactly what I meant.

Is there any way on Nero to tell how much compression is taking place?

At what point does one lose picture quality?
In regards to compression.

I have the same questions regarding Shrink.
But that program does sem to tell me how much comprssion takes place but still would like to know when picture quality degrades?

Thank you,
