okay lol well the title says it all. I have been stoped playing my pc because my mum belives that my computer has been puting her bills up and well she has a 32 inch lcd she has had on most of the day aswell. As i feel its a bit unfair that its just my pc, it could be other machines in the house? I have a 450w supply and well before i had a 250 watt but i was on that for some time. i got adicted to wow and was playing that for hours so that probs make sence and that was with an older pc. But with this new computer i have hardly been on it and i realy want to get back on crysis how can i explan to her its jut not my pc? are they psu's that are good for energy are there ways to prevent my pc from being a golbal warming machine but still have the power to play the latest games?
many thanks

The typical high-end gaming PC uses 200W under load (based on a 75% overclocked CPU, 4GB of RAM, 2 hard drives and a Radeon HD3870 GPU), and the monitor about 50W. A 30" LCD TV uses around 120W.
More importantly though, using an electric oven for half an hour uses as much electricity as a gaming PC does when gaming for 10+ hours.

Here's a chart you can show your Mum.
Shows power consumption of various size tv's.
If Her TV is on all day, she's using as much if not more power than you are.
Make her a deal, when your pc is on, her TV is on and when your pc is off Her TV goes off. (I know that'll never fly LOL)

No, what that means it has a 80% efficiency rating, From what I understand this means for every 100 watts used, 80 watts goes to your pc, only 20% of the power is lost.
Seasonic makes good PSU's, but not that good.
Glad the chart helped.
Peace

No matter how big a PSU you have, your power bill won't increase. The power figure on a PSU is an "up to" figure, not a "how much it uses" figure.

Heh, I'm 19 as well, and my parents are forever moaning about it when I'm home, but they don't really intend to stop me. I live in a student house term-time so I can do as I please with my PC.

Get yourself one of these and by using a multi-way extension lead you can exactly monitor and prove the power usage of your system over any number of hours, you can then do the same on the humidifiers and show where the real culprit is.

Very intetresting, Do you know if you can get these in Canada?
P.S. my vote for the culprits are those two dehumidifiers going all the time.

They're quite useful to have anyway, so its a good purchase.
I've got a couple I use now and then.
At least then you take any guess work out of it and can present some facts.
I agree its probably those units causing the big bill.

Humidifers use hardly any power. DEhumidifers use loads - estimate at around 1KW for the pair, versus your PC's few hundred. I think you're off the hook... ;-)

well at the moment they are comparing it to this electriacal device called a flavawave.. dunno if you know what they are but its besicly a electrical oven, and they are comparing it with again the 32 inch tv lcd. its really anoying though because it has made me so weary to go on my pc, when i have it again lol had probablems with a gigabtye board this time it was the gigabyte p35c-ds3r kept on rebooting on its self.. got the rma code to send it back thats 3 motherboards now :(

That sucks about the board, I know quite a few people who have them and they all love them.
Even Sammorris has one.
Ahhh well every company make bad one's once in awhile.
