It's been a while folks...I haven't softmodded a box in at least a year and a half then my brother asks me to do one for my nephew. Some where in the process something goes awry, so i end up with error code 13 failure to boot xbe dash. I have a copy of madden 06 laying around so I try to do a dash update using xbox live it asks me to create a new i.d. when i click on yes it launches me back to error 13. In the past I would use a pc to xboxhd or whatever it used to be called. These days my pc is long retired and gone and i'm on a laptop, fixing this on a laptop thus far seems impossible. Can anyone recommend another option for fixing this, chipping the box is really not an option for me either at this point. I can still load splinter cell and just about any game that's not scratched. I tried to simply load the exploit again but it goes to error 13 or 14 as well. Any ideas?
An unusual error is 13. It can be casued by hardware problems see.. like a philips dvd drive on the way out, or a wrong drive jumper setting.
When you tried to do the "live update" trick you didn't have the box connected to any network capability did you?
Now if the xbox will load burned disks you should try running either a good softmod installer which gives you FTP capabilities.. swapping the E:\backup\dashboard files back onto C:, or you can try running slayers and doing a "restore to factory" which will give you a nasty black dash until you do the "live update" trick again and be back to stock.
being honest.. Laptops are a waste of time for xbox work.. A dumpster pentium2 will do for most xbox stuff (I have one purely for this)
I can only load store purchased games, i've tried to get it to read just about everything else but no luck. I still keep trying to load the actual game save that's on the drive using splinter cell but it reverts back to either 13 or 14.
Quote:13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.
The error it gives is because of the incompatibility between the (older) dashboard (4920) that older slayer cd installs and the new dashboard/kernel versions found in some new xbox's and found in xbox's that have been connected to xbox live (when you go on xbox-live, it'll upgrade your dashboard file to i believe it is now 5659.03. This dasboard is incompatible with the dash that (old) slayer cd installs (for example 2.5 or lower) for you.
(In detail, in the eeprom chip there is a kernel which is incompatible with the dashboard (4920) that slayer installs.)
So what do you do to fix it? You can use the dashupdate found on most new xbox games! Be sure to 1st unplug your ethernet cable before you do so!!!
Besides that, just use a good installation disc and all is fine. Use a 2.6 slayer or something similar
LOL haven't turned on my xbox in forever...maybe i'll give the old lady a boot over the weekend?
