Hi,
I am having a problem i've never encountered before and i need some help before i throw in the towel and decide to purchase a new computer.

A few days ago i downloaded a program for converting ntsc-pal video in 1 click. After installing it i went to a random warez site for the activation password and then immediatley after that my pc started acting funky. I know to stay away from warez sites and the program i dowloaded probably should have been avoided. But shortly after my pc would freeze after it booted up windows. I couldnt run any virus programs or delete the program because the pc would work for 1 minute and then freeze. So i made the decision to wipe my hard drive. I had done this b4 a couple years ago and i felt like it was time because i had alot of space take up by programs i didnt really use but didn't want to delete. Well the freezing problem has extended to my efforts trying to wipe the hard drive. First I used Kill Disk which is what i always use and that didn't even reach 1% in 12 hours. So then i decided to use this Nuke program, i forget the name. But that made three passes and froze at 40% on the third pass. In my years of wiping hard drives for myself and other people I have never seen this before and i don't know what to do. Putting my windows disk in to format the drive doesn't work and i don't see how the drive could be shot. i just bought the drive 2 1/2 years ago. Has anyone seen or heard anything like this? If there is no clear cut answer, would buying a new drive solve the problem and save me from having to buy a new pc? I don't have all the specs since i am currently at work, but my pc is from 2001, and the operating system was originall windows 98, but i upgraded it with a copy of windows xp that i have. The bios is a pheonix. The hard drive is a 300gb seagate drive but my bios limited me to only being able to see 125gb of it. Any and all help is appreciated. I posted hear because i assume it's a virus of some sort since it just started a few days ago.
