So, a week ago or so I lost my copy of Mega Man X8 (I know, it's not a very good game.) Wanting to replace it, I went to a torrent site and downloaded it for the PS2 (I assume that is legal. I have purchased the game. And it's in my possession in a sense; it's simply not accessible to me, wherever it may be.) I noted that it was odd that it was in BIN and CUE format. Well, when I went to burn it to a DVD, DVD Decrypter gave me the following warning:
"Your image does not appear to be of the correct format for burning to a DVD"
Image format: Mode2/form1/2352
DVD format: Mode1/2048"
So, I used ISO buster to extract the image file's contents and I tried to build an mswhatever file using CD/DVD Generator, but it too gave me problems, saying, "Does not meet the minimum 60000 sector DVD requirement" or some such. So I created a dummy file 500mb in size and added that to the end of the image file contents and built the mswhatever file and then imported that into Apache2 and created an .iso file which I then burned to a Taiyou Yuuden (legitimate. I have already backed up 8 or more games with the slightest problem) at 4x. I then used swap magic 3.6 in an attempt to boot it up. The game did not work. I tried this twice. (That is, I made two copies and tried each of them once or twice.)
What's the problem? How can I fix this? There is only one torrent for the ps2 version of mega man x8. Well, there's another but it's a blackcats torrent that I can't access (why in the hell are those uploaded to other torrent sites when they're completely unusable for non-members?) Since, there is no chance in hell of getting a blackcats invite in the next little while, I'm pretty much screwed unless I can get this .bin image file properly converted into a ps2-compatible iso.
By the way, Mega Man X8 is definitely a DVD game, not CD. So I'm not making any mistake there.
A little more information:
The original .BIN is about 760mb in size and when I used ISObuster to extract the contents of the file, it shrunk to about 660mb. Is ISObuster removing dummy files or something? If so, how do I get it to not do that? I want the image file to be of the same size but simply a different format, iso.
I would much appreciate any assistance.

I had a look at the torrents and probably saw the one you downloaded. If yours is the pal-multi5 version part of the tag also states that it is a PSrip. So maybe its trimmed down and ripped so that it could be burn to a cd-r. Also another thing that made me think its for cd-r is because the image is just 724mb, a minimum for dvd iso is 1.2gb, anything less and it wont be registered as dvd. The NTSC version of megaman x8 is atleast 2gb so there is a big diff there. And lastly it also says pctorrent in the name also so i'd be skeptical of that.
If its indeed true that its ripped for cd-r if you still want it in dvd then just re-build it again the way you did but this time patch it first for dvd-r.

Yes scan it with DVD scan 3.7
You can get it from this tutorial and follow it that way or still use the method you did.
Bin files are always CD format.
Mode2/form1/2352
You would either just burn it to CD-R then using DVD Decrypter or convert it too DVD if you want it on DVD's.
There is no need to Convert the BIN file to CD ISO to burn it.
The differences in size as you see is normal.
Compressed size on Disk as compared to Windows size on Disk.

Im not sure about this but i dont think DVD Decrypter can burn to cd-r. I tried to make cd isos with DVD Decrypter before but it cant so i used ImgBurn instead. Its a worthy trade up i havent used another app since.

Well Imgburn is the successor and yes it will burn BIN files to CD-R.
I didn't say CD ISO.
As when a CD is Backed up it goes to BIN Image.
You can make CD UDF/ISO with Nero.

yea, when i said cd iso i meant cd image. i mix them sometimes :P
If you say DVD Decrypter can burn to cd, sure, and i retract my statement. I never tried to burn cds with DVD D before when it failed to make a cd image back then. Then i switched to next and never switched back.
Sorry about that. XD

No problem.
I understand what you are saying and why it didn't work.
Cause when you back up a CD Original with Imgburn it will create a BIN file, same as CLone CD etc.
The differences so you know is in the Mode.
Then you know if its CD or DVD format.

If it helps, the contents of the image file I downloaded, according to ISObuster, are as follows:
DATA
MODULES
SLES_529.88
SYSTEM.CNF
DUMMY.DAT - 0KB
ZERO.DAT - 0KB
Certainly seems to be the PS2 version of the game and not the PC version, given the presence of SLES_529.88; so there should be some hope of pulling this off.
Now, there remains a matter of which I have a rather tenuous understanding. When you say that "a minimum for dvd iso is 1.2gb, anything less and it wont be registered as dvd", do you mean to say that if I burned the game to a DVD, it wouldn't be recognized by the PS2? Does that mean that I have to add data to the dummy file? And if so, does the dummy file need to be of precisely the same size as it was originally? If you look above, you'll see that indeed the contents of the dummy file were removed in order to make the image fit to a CD.
Sorry for asking so many questions and being such a bother. But I really want to get this right this time. I have already turned 3 precious Taiyou Yuudens into coasters.

I just said that as a means of comparison between image sizes. And i think you know why you need to add a dummy since you already done it. And as for avoiding coasters an advise i can give is either test the new image in an emulator first before you burn it or burn it to a DVD-RW before using your TY DVD-R. Both methods work for me so it should for you too.

i don't know if this relates but...
this happened to me earlier
i got a copy of dance dance revolution party collection (Jp)
in .bin / .cue format.
i used dvd decrypter to burn it to a dvd and i got that mode msg thing you were talking about.
i tried to run it in swap magic and it said invalid ps2 disc.
the reason this happened because it's not meant to be dvd-rom but a cd-rom (look up your game), so burn it to a cd-r and you should be fine.
what's going onnnnnn.

You can use the Dummy file maker and make it whatever size you want.
A 600mb file would be fine, being you already have 660MB, but more won't hurt.
Give that a go and see how it works in your PS2.
I don't know why idiots convert small DVD games to CD in the first place, lol.

Chances are they haven't converted small dvd games to cd.. There are such things as ps2 cd games you know.
I don't understand what the problem is here.. We have been burning bin/cue pairs for years and years.. well before iso became the common distribution format. (I release in toc/data format) bin/cue is not only cd.. it is ANY disk image (just to put that straight)
Just burn it as you would any disk image in bin/cue format to a cd.. 724 should fit easily. It will go on a dvd at that size as well. The practical minimum I have found for a dvd image is 500mb, though less than that will burn some dvd drives have problems getting hold of the data.
Try mounting the bin/cue pair on a virtual drive and as suggested before run it in an emulator first. It is very possible that what you have here is something that has been messed with for psp.
If you rebuild it removing the dummy file listing and then burn to cd
(In your situation I would use alcohol120%) it should work, but no guarantees.
If you want to try making an iso out of this pair (I can't see the point but whatever) try http://www.xs.fi/products/bin2iso/
BTW.. I happened to see this very game in our local pawn shop yesterday for £1.99

I said that above because this one is a small DVD game, lol.
And I already pointed out above to just burn it too CD, and how to convert to DVD if he wanted too.
The converting BIN to ISO doesn't usually work out so well with PS2 games. At least that is what I have found out in the past.
I don't see the point in that either.

Sorry for not replying earlier. I have been busy.
I actually fixed the problem shortly after writing my last post. I converted it to a DVD-compatible iso format and burned it to a disc which is working without any issues whatever.
Thanks yet again to everyone who replied to my posts.

I don't see the point in that either.
My two reasons for doing so are as follows:
1. If the information in the guide that was pointed out to me is correct, CDs are hard on the PS2 laser. I have no way of verifying that...
2. My CD-r discs are 700mb in size. The original .BIN file is 750mb or so. I figured it wouldn't fit. Maybe I was wrong about that? Don't know.
