I know the 360 games are best burned on a speed of 2.4x but should I get the blank DVD+R DL with 8X? I heard it's better for the 360, is this true or not or should I just get the 2.4X DVD+R DL as they are cheaper?

I have always used the 2.4x and since you shouldn't ever burn faster than that unless you like to have problems you should be fine. I have burnt around 100 games and have had only maybe 2-3 bad burns and they are probaly my fault anywayz. I would suggest either verbatim or ritek ridata which is what I have recently switched to and am happy with so far, 50+ burns!! no problems.
