Prerequisites: Before you start transferring music, audio, etc... I highly recommend you remove the micro SD card from your phone and use a SD card reader to transfer your multimedia. In other words, use something else besides your phone to transfer data to your micro SD card. You do not necessary need a SD card reader, anything will work, camera, printer, etc. Your SD card should be formatted to FAT and when you plug it in you should see a lot of folders like MP3, MP4, DICT, AUDIO, CALLLOG, EBOOK, JPG, MAP, MEMO, PHB, PIC, RING, SMS, SYS, audio, My Music. For me the audio transfers where sluggish and really frustrating using the usb cable that came with the A988+.
STEP 1
GETTING THE AUDIO FILE - The first step in putting audio files such as music on your phone is to simply acquire/download the audio, how you do that is YOUR BUSINESS. I recommend staying away from protected music because it can be a headache trying to convert them. Personally, I down load music audios from youtube, extract the audio file from it, and then edit the audio file. Other people use torrents. I'll assume you know how to get your hands on free, unprotected, audio files.
STEP 2
CONVERTING THE AUDIO FILE ? the A988+ accepts audio in .mp3 and .wma format. I think just about any .wma format will work but the mp3 format is very specific.
Ubuntu Users: I recommend installing Sound Converter for audio converting. You can get the software from the repositories. Just simply go to Application>>>Add/Remove... in the search bar type in ?soundconverter?. Check the little box to the left of the software and then click Apply Changes. Once its installed. Go to Application>>>Sound & Video>>>Sound Converter. Once Sound Converter starts go to edit>>>Preference.
Where it says ?Type of result?: Select mp3.
Change the ?bitrate mode? to Constant (CBR).
Change the ?Quality? to Normal. Then click close.
Add the files you want to convert and convert them : )
notes: sound converter is a really good program. It can convert just about anything into a audio file even audios. So don't be shy here throw everything you got at it because it will make a audio files out of anything.
Window Users: I recommend installing Pepsky Free Audio Converter. You can get it from softpedia.com or just follow this url: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/...Converter.shtml Once you install the software, start it up and go ?Audio File Converter?. The default audio conversion settings are perfect for the A988+. Here they are.
Output Format: mp3
Bit Rate: 128 kb/s
Frequency: 441000 Hz
Volume: 100%
Channels: 2 (stereo)
STEP 3
TRANSFERRING AUDIO FILE ? this is the part instructions that you must understand or else everything else you have done will be in vain and the audio will not show up on your phone.
Ubuntu Users: Once you have the converted audio file YOU MUST TRANSFER THE AUDIO FILE TO A NTFS FORMATTED HARD DRIVE BEFORE TRANSFERRING TO YOUR PHONES SD CARD!!! Make sure to place the audio files in the MP3 folder, of your SD card. For me it was easy because I already have ntfs formatted partions on my computer.
Windows Users: Windows by default uses ntfs as its format so it should not be any problem. If there is any issue with the audio, just transfer the audio to your desktop first and then to your SD card. Make sure to place the audio files in the MP3 folder, of your SD card.
STEP 4
Put the SD card back in the phone and tun it on. Go to Menu>>>MULTIMEDIA>>>MP3 Player and viola you should see your playable audio on the A988+
Remember this is a mobile phone not an iPod/Zune so don't try to put a long audio files on it. I do not know the exact limitation of a audio file size. Also do not have to many characters in the audio file name or else it wont recognized the audio. Keep down to 13 characters. Enjoy
