Hi. I've been using VirtualDub to embed subtitles onto avi.divx files satisfactorily for about a month now; it's a great programme and I've had few failures. If there have been failures, it's because the subtitles were wrong.
I also loved the fact that the files produced were small; usually no more than 500MG. However, in the past 3 days, every file I've tried to embed subtitles into has ended up as being HUGE. I've had a subtitled file of 4.2GB from an input avi (divx) file of 700MG. That's never happened before and I haven't changed the defaults or anything at all. I even downloaded the whole pack again after uninstalling the original. The same result.
Can anyone tell me what I may have done?
Thanks in advance. I've got a queue of movies waiting to be subtitled, so I'm desperate for some suggetions.
Hi. That's what I've been doing. This is why I can't understand what's going on. The recommended compression type is there and I'm choosing that one as I always have. As I said, it was fine till a few days ago, but suddenly it's making these huge files. I'm re-downloading the codec pack again, just in case sonmething's wrong there.
In the meantime, if I can't get this to function properly, can anyone recommend a programme that'll shrink avi files using divx?
Problem solved! It was the codec. I don't know how, but the divx mpeg codec must've got corrupted or uninstalled (although it was still showing up in the compression-choice part of VirtualDub as an option).
I've reinstalled the whole pack and VirtualDub's chugging away normally now, predicting a file of 484mg from an original of 799mg.
