my DVD-RW Pioneer doesn`t want to burn dvd`s

Hy,
I have a laptop Toshiba Satelite P205 S6257 and my optical unit Pioneer DVR K17-LF-2.52 doesn`t want to burn dvd`s.
I tried to find a firmware but I didn`t find nothing !!!
Another problem is that is not recognize dvd`s that was burn with from it.
Anyway is good for the moment !!! that burn cd`s and recognize some dvd`s
If anyone is kiind to help me..........
