What playable file format has chapter marks?

Is there a file format/codec which is playable as a single movie but also has chapter marks allowing me to go to a specific point in the movie, like I can with a DVD?

Can I do this with MP4, DivX, XVid, WMV, AVI or any other of the file formats/codecs out there?

I originally posted a similar question a week ago and, being a newb asking about DVD ripping I got pointed to the usual guides but they don't seem to answer my question. I'm not asking HOW to do it. I can't ask that question yet because I don't know exactly WHAT I want to do. I'd be very grateful if someone could point me in the direction of the file format/codec, if it exists. I promise not to come back here until I've read all of the guides that cover it. Including all the ones that just make a passing reference. And all the ones where the author even thought about mentioning it. Or thought about the idea of thinking about mentioning it.

I've found out on HEXUS that Matroska (*.mkv) files can contain chapter marks.

On AfterDawn, I found this: Creating MKV files with mkvtoolnix.
