There are like, four million types of Verbatims out there. I've wittled down my choices on Newegg to two, but would like to make sure that they're quality.
I've used the +Rs before and they seem fine, but there are some PS2 games that only fit on -Rs (Valkyrie Profile 2)...
So are these both safe to buy? I work late nights (10:00PM-4:00AM) and am in college, so I want to make sure I'm spending my hard-earned dough wisely.
I can tell you that the advantage of +Rs, other than the fact that they are newer, is that they can be booktyped as ROM--which increases its compatibility.
The last 1000 backups of my DVDs are all 16x +R Verbs. No complaints. The small sample I used of the Datalife resulted in great scores, too.

Those prices seem high, especially when the plus verbs are a buck cheaper than the dash-after shipping charges.
The +8x are shiny. No biggie, they burn very good and have a lot of space to print on with a sharpie. The -8x look like shiny in the pic,but may not be.
Locally, you should be able to find Verbatim 16x for under $25 per 100 pk,$15 per 50 pk at bestbuy, office max-when they are on sale. Sam's club may yield the older 8x verbs.
Ordering from the net,I'd try here for Taiyo Yuden:
Free shipping on those babies.A heck of a lot cheaper than newegg. Also check out rima.com and meritline.com.
+8x Verbatim are very good. They're coded MCC-003. I'd take them anyday. The verbatim -8x,I would not. Both are getting scarce, locally.
My burners favor the plus format because of their bitsetting capability to booktype the plus format to dvd-rom.
I went to Best Buy the other day and saw some Verbatims, but they came in an orange package and were made in India - I'm sure I was told somewhere to steer clear of those.
100 Taiyo Yudens for 34, or 50 Verbatims for 23? Choices...
I'd make sure the spindles of verbs say Made in Taiwan on the -/+R.Bestbuy may have MIT spindles mixed in with MII spindles ,so people need to sort them. If you're buying off the net, then you're not guaranteed if you get MII or MIT verbs.
They should have 50 pk tubs at meritline, rima, and supermediastore. Between those 3 sites, one of them is bound to have free shipping and makes the total purchase cheaper. In these times, free shipping is a major plus.
I keep all 3 bookmarked when I purchase Inkjet printables.
Taiyo Yuden also has 4 million types of discs. Both taiyo yuden and verbatim used advanced metal AZO dye.On the net, usually the high quality Ty's are cheaper-especially the shiny/silver thermals. The verbs are easier to get locally. When they are on sale locally, they are cheaper than the net stores, especially the dash format. The plus format usually costs more from the net stores, for reason unknown.
