I am using EAC and LAME to convert to MP3 direct from audio cd's. I can use EAC to get the .wav files just fine, but LAME has an error every time it starts converting, then EAC just goes to rip the next track. I'm running on Vista but I didn't find anything onine about LAME or EAC not working with it. I used this guide to set up EAC, and everything is identical. I am at a dead end, if anyone could help. Thanks.

Greetings and welcome Dorkdrum. =) I?m an audio enthusiast and pretty experienced with using different audio software.

EAC is my favourite audio extractor too, it?s a great product but I personally prefer using an individual installation of Lame, with Razorlame as a front end and just use EAC for what it excels at, which is extracting to Wave. This method does take marginally more time but assures better guaranteed quality in my opinion, as using the correct application yourself makes it readily customisable and decreases opportunity for mistakes.

Lame.exe is hard to find in the tar file from the Lame site itself but a useful site called rarewares offers easy to set up bundles. http://rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php If you?re using Windows download the Lame 3.97 bundle that?s first on the page and choose to open it with your archiver, such as WinZip. (If you don?t have WinZip, Zipgenius is excellent and free- http://www.download.com/ZipGenius-Standa....html?tag=lst-1 ) In your archiver select extract and when the destination path screen appears, choose c:\Lame 3.97 as the directory to extract to. Now to get Razorlame - http://www.dors.de/razorlame/ Click on the RazorLame 1.1.5a hyperlink that?s in the first paragraph on Maintenance Release and select open it to your archiver. Once again select c:\Lame 3.97 as the destination path and you?re done with downloading. You can also save the files to Desktop and extract them in your archiver from there, using the same directory for the destination path. Now, go to start and open My Computer, double click local disc (C: ) and you will see lame3.97 in the files there. Open it and click on the barbed sword shaped icon to open RazorLame, and click on Lame in the RazorLame interface. In Lame Options click load options, located just beneath close, leave file name blank but choose all files for files of type in the dropdown window near the bottom of the screen. Lame.exe will be the fourth file down in the 2nd column of the files you?ll see now, it?s the 2nd of two files that just read lame. Open this file, click ok on the lame options screen and you?re ready to go, you can customise Lame easily and get busy encoding and decoding your Wave files from EAC.

Hope I haven?t made this sound too complex, it?s really easy to set up and will only take a few mins. All that?s good to you. =)
