Ok, so this morning I was on my computer *HP Pavilion 714x* and left for class..When i came back the computer was shut off...I tried to turn it on, but nothing from my computer, The other computer in the room works all the stuff hooked up to the outlet works except for my computer. But where the power cable hooks up into the computer in the back theres a blinking green light. I asked my sister who was home if the electricity cut off this morning and she said yeah.

Do you think i need a new power supply? If so which one would be best?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like its burnt out...call your OEM they can give you the same model (PSU) one as you were currently using, open your case and make sure the MB isn't fried (cracks, ban smell and splits).....now i cant seem to find your computer on the net, are you sure you gave us the right model name? we can give you the right PSU (probably a 500W psu) for your specific computer.....

if you could link us to its page here or on any site that would be great

Antec makes great psu for OEM replacements

Before you spend money on a PSU, I would suggest you take the cover off the computer and check the systemboard for bad capacitors.
Bad capacitors is a common problem.
I just repaired a computer with this same problem, it would not power on. I replaced 9 bad capacitors and it works fine now.

Links to website that explains the problem and how to identify bad capacitors.

Ok, went to the website given and checked for bad capacitors, and nothing looked out of the norm..I also looked at the MB and i don't see anything unusual either. Is there anyway i could check if my power supply is dead or no. I think the existing power supply i have in there right now is a "Bestec ATX-250-12Z" i think its a 250w thats the output.

You could take the PSU from the working computer and try it in the HP. Or you could buy a PSU tester.

ya you can, you need like a voltage testing kit er something from radio shack........i cant remember the actual name for it LOL it has two wires
you poke into a source and it checks to see if any power is still running through it, LOL am i making any sense?
edit: seems pcdoc1 has got it :)

its safe to say the because you had a power outage your PSU is dead:( replacing it would be sound......... its a 300w psu and it checks out with your PC fine

According to the HP site it is a 250W PS.
