Hey guys I'm having a problem here...I've done quite a bit of research with no luck. I'm about to pull my hair out here. I'll try to explain what is going on the best I can.
I Just purchased a turtle beach Montego DDL soundcard for my home theatre pc. I'm using the optical out on the card and connecting it to my RCA 272760 surround reciever (not the best I know but all can afford right now).
My problem is this--- I'm playing .MKV files from my pc and I cannot get 5.1 surround. I've tried all kinds of configurations and just cannot get it to work... inthe control panel of the card when i select 5.1 i get all same sound coming out of all the speakers at the same time (5.1 not working).....when i select s/pdif out over two speakers and let my reciever try to decode it, all I can get is Dolby digital pro logic.......... I've tried several different types of players and cant get any of them to work correctly...strange thing is I can run the test in the soundcard control panel and it corretly goes through all six of my surround speakers....furthermore I also tried Corel WinDVD 9 and when playing a dvd from my dvd drive (gladiator) can get 5.1 to work properly...so I know the card is working and my reciever is capable of recieving what the card is outputting....This also makes me think that the players that I'm using are having a problem reading the 5.1 audio that is encoded on the .MKV files...so maybe I need a codec or something.......been hearing about AC3, tried many variations but prob didnt so something right...................I just cant get the .MKV files to work properly.......and this is VERY important to me....Windvd 9 will not play .MKV files, so no solution there.......My player of choice is bsplayer, but ill use anything that will work.......I really need to get Dolby 5.1 to work with .MKV files.......Please please help....I've already aged greatly over the stress of this problem...... Thanks, Riff
