help plz...pioneer 109 won't burn double layer discs anymore..

it burns normal 4.7 gb, but not double layers...i've tried 2 diff. kinds of discs, and it doesn't ever recognise them.

it just all of a sudden stopped working...tried to reinstall drive, update firmware. and nothing..

any ideas??

It's a bit older drive so it probably can't do as well with the newer dual layer media like 6x and up.
Try using Verbatim 4x (or under if you can find them).

It should burn d/l disks no problem.. I think it's just worn out with the strain of burning memosux disks.
I bought my NEC 3550 before the 109 came out.. I never rated these pioneer series.. Not great burners, and seem to have a short life.

Pioneer is good - another good one is LiteOn.

If you are in the US check out newegg.com - prices are around $30-40 (USD)

I have the Pioneer 108 - the model before yours - still burns single layer great but for dual layer I no longer trust it. I use the LiteOn for dual layer.

Sorry K.. I wouldn't touch liteon with a bargepole.. IMHO you may as well buy unbranded OEM. (stacks of really crap OEM drives I replace have liteon tagged firmware)

Pioneer, Samsung or NEC.. in the normal priced series. The pioneer 112d probably being the best of the bunch.

Suppose a lot depends on how you treat them.. Lifespan with cheap disks looks like about 8-14 months.

I know you use top grade media.

(OEM... st-dl-hs-522slt - liteonDH-52C2P firmware.. failed to write ((insert writable disk)) after 8 2.4x datawrite (cmc) d/l+r's) A new record for a shoddy drive/disk combination?

That would be good but I'd go with newegg.com instead - $16 cheaper for the same one - link.

I use and quite a few other members here use newegg and they're top notch.

It's more than likely a good. I found this at Pioneer site:
The DVR-1810 retail bundle features the Pioneer DVR-112D DVD/CD writer and software from Nero.
So it looks like it a bundle type marketing thing - the drive is actually a DVR-112D.
