Hi there i just overclocked to my PC to 3 GHz for the first time ever. It seems to be running fine with no crashes etc, i did a stress test where the CPU temperature climbed to 65 Celcius, again no crashes.
However my problem is every time i restart my PC i either get a "system boot error" and have to press F1 to continue to Windows or the bios screen does not load at all.
I managed to get a stable overclock so thanks, but i changed back the default settings to update the BIOS.
Everything is fine except when i run CPU-Z my clock speed is showing up less than 2.4 GHz. The bus speed is 266 Mhz and the multipler is 9 however my clock speed is showing up as 2133.4 MHz about 200MHz less than it should be. I downloaded CPU-Z again and the same clock speed showed up.
Have i screwed up my cpu?
Also now when i try to overclock to 3 Ghz, increasing the bus speed to 333.33 Mhz, CPU-Z is still showing 2670 Mhz instead of 3000 Mhz.
I hope Intel/the store i bought it from will still return my cpu as i bought it about this time last May.
your multiplier is at 8x
it should be at 9x (9 x 266mhz = 2400mhz)
its probably throttling
turn off EIST in bios and you should be fine!
no, you didnt screw up your cpu
and no, the place you bought it from won't take it back after a year!
if something goes wrong, you will have to rma with Intel
