mistakenly did a disk image backup when trying to do full backup. Now when try to retore using nrestore from first disk, get error messages and restore stops (sector not found). does anyone know how I can recover my backup from the dat files it creates?

isobuster doesn't read the .dat files either. With the nero disk image backup you insert the first disk and it has a stupid dos program called nrestore that is supposed to put everything back just as it was, (entire hard drive), however even tho I let it partion the hard drive itself, it keeps getting to the third disk then saying sector not found on hard drive and stopping the restore. I have 15 dvds full of irreplaceable stuff, like digital photos (7 years worth) and am totally sick. If anyone can help, please!!!!

first disk has nrestore, some msg files with error messages, and dat files, all the rest have only dat files.

hmm?

ok these dvds what is the dye code off them? just wondering if degradation over time is an issue with curuption. and maybe copying to a new dvdr with iso read/iso write may work.

also since you made these dvds have you changed hardware/dvd drives? changed pc? updated any hardware in this department. basically saying you made dvdrs on another or part different pc so to speak...

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

use dvd identifier or dvdinfopro or imgburn to tell you the dye code off/inside the disc.

howser1 - check the backup media using Nero Toolkit/cd-dvd speed/
scandisk.
Check all of your backup DVD's using this method. It will tell
you if there are any permanent read errors.

What is the status of the Harddrive ? Did it crash?
It may be worth contacting Nero support.

Unfortuntely, the CMC media you used doesn't have that great a
reputation.

these are goddam nasty dvdrs... and if you got one to work on data, it will degrade after a couple months to useless plastic.

did we mention trying to copy the image to HD then make new dvdr? all i can think of for better reading...

get some super dooper VERBATIM.

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

kinda sounds like I'm screwed. Thanks for your help. will try checking all and copying to hard drive and back.
computer was acting up, restarting itself, working really slow, etc and hadn't been reformatted for years. I thought it probably needed redone, after reformat, still acted up, turns out cpu is dying, turned speed down and is working temporarily.
