Hi all. I'm new here and am not overly familiar with forum protocol. I know that if a post is placed in the wrong section it usually gets moved to the appropriate one by the moderators. I'll make my post here and if it needs to be moved, please do so.

I'm trying to find a very simple step-by-step walk through of installing a mod chip, backing up PS2 games and loading them. The mod chip that's been recommended to me is the PS2 DMS4 Pro. Apparently this chip is considered top shelf. I've looked at the instructions to install it and I must admit it is very intimidating to someone who's never done this kind of thing before. I like the fact that it's solderless and that there is an add on that prevents your laser from burning out.

There's mention of "homebrew" related to playing backed up games. From what I've read, I still don't quite grasp what it is and what exactly it does. I could be wrong, but the impression I currently have is that all of this seems to be more trouble than it's worth. Then there's talk about some sort of "flip top" doo-dad....totally lost on that one.
I really don't know where to start or what information to trust I find on the web. Is anyone willing to help me with an over simplified set of instructions on how to do this mod chip thing on my slim PS2 before I actually go ahead and make the purchase?

Thank you in advance! :)

Hi there zoom, I have a little experience soldering, but not enough to really trust myself doing something as delicate as this. I do however have a friend who's job entails soldering on a daily basis. I could ask him to help but he works long hours and I'm not sure he would want to take on another work load at home. Why do you ask?

solderless modchips aren't worth it. the connections can be easily removed, and sometimes the the connections don't even stay when you put the system back together. the standard solder DMS4 is better.

Installing a modchip requires a good amount of knowledge and practice and if you do one thing wrong your ps2's dead.

Ask him if he will do it for you and get back to us.
