I want to buy 1gb ram for my pc because it has only 256 mb ram right now .Im new to this thing so can you help me and tell what do i need to know to choose ram that will work for my pc??

The ram you currently have in there probably wont have the easiest label to understand since u can always match up the pins and spaces to see the type of ram (sd/ddr/ddr2/rambus) you have.. you still wont know what speed or if its dual channel or not... thats y you need to know the mobo ur using to see what kind of ram and speed it accepts.

moved to correct forum. go with kingston as you are using 1 now. check your motherboard manual or computer guide as it should list what ram & manufacturer is compatible with your motherboard. also should tell you what is the max amount of ram can have on the board.

I went to my local pc shop.Looked for PC2100(266mhz) DDR i found it, but i dont see anywhere DDR.


by the way DDR is slot number???I mean if i see an PC2100(266mhz) DDR2 can i still buy it or i need DDR?

#2 has nothing to do with slot number. there is currently 3 different versions of ddr ram: ddr, ddr2 & recently ddr3. none of those 3 types are pin compatible with each other but there are some boards that have both ddr & ddr2 slots & presumablely ddr2 & ddr3 slots on same boards.
