Wondering if anyone had similar experiences. I have a Panasonic settop player that is about two years old. Have been testing my backups off and on over the last 6 mos or so. Suddenly, it will not ready ANY type of DVD media.

I have read that when a DVD is first inserted into a reader, it must first calibrate intensity before they can read media. My theory was that the DVD-R media (TDK) I was using was less reflective than silver or std media. Could the lessened reflectivity and subsequent higher laser intensity fry my DVD player? Or maybe it was just time for it to go? Please comment on your experience.

Probably just died, don't think the backups had anything to do with it. Panasonic's stuff is some of the most reliable equipment made though.
