The original Pioneer DV-400V played DivX files for about 2 months, after which it would not play any computer video files at all. It would only play standard movie DVD's.

After many weeks of aggravation with Pioneer Tech and Customer Support to prove that the unit was indeed defective, I was told I had to go through an authorized service center.

To make a very long story short, It ended up out for repair/replacement for over two months.

To add insult to injury, the replacement unit was defective right out of the box. It would only play AVI files and could not see any other type of files, like mpeg files. Again more weeks of aggravation with the idioits at Pioneer Customer Service to prove the unit was defective.

At the present time the 2nd unit has been out for repairs for over three months! Now after three months, I was finally told they are going to send me a DV410 unit becasue they could not correct the problem with teh DV-400. Maybe I will get the replacement by Christmas time. I still waiting, two weeks, after being told about the replacement.

The main reason I liked the Pioneer unit was because it would show the name, file type, file duration and remaining time on the TV screen for Divx files. I can't seem to find a unit from another company that has this feature along with long file names.
So the tow DV400's units have been in my home only about 6 weeks and out for service over 5 months and counting.

That's my horror story with Pioneer, so beware, of Pioneer warranty replacement.

Thanks for the reply.
Below is the latest in my Pioneer Horror Story.
The replacement DV-410 does not see or play any files with the extsion MPG.

To Whom It May concern
After waiting for three months, I just picked up the Pioneer DV-410VK at the service center (replacement for a defective DV400).

Unbelievably, like the unit it replaced, this unit will not display on teh menu or play any files with the file extension MPG. It will not play nay MPEG-2 files!

It recognizes and plays file with the extension AVI, WMVand DivX but no MPG files.
This machine will not play files that play in my Pioneer DV-588A-S, the first DV-400K when it played computer video files or the Philips 642.

What's going on with Pioneer DivX units, that they either will only work correctly for a few months(like the first DV-400 or will not play any MPG files at all, like the second DV-400 and this DV410?

Attached is information about an MPEG-2 file I captured from a DVR with an ATI All In Wonder Card 800Series, placed in GSpot a Video file utility. Also attached is a sample MPEG-2 captured file that won't play on this unit.

I sent a DVD with sample video files, with the replaced DV-400, which was not returned to me from Pioneer.

Thank You
