how do mate. you are missing a codec for media player. go to http://www.freewarefiles.com/ and search for media codec pack. download this and it updates media player to take any file.. or download vlc media player. its skins are crap but it plays anything..

Is there a way i can transfer the file to a place where it can be burned since VLC media player is the only thing that i can find that i can both see and hear it?

yeh after the file is downloaded its stored in an ares file, usually in documents and settings. go into the folder and single click the file and on the left of your screen you will see an option that says move this file. click on it and choose where you want to send it. or right click on the file and choose option "send to" you can change the folder that ares sends your files to! go to documents and seettings and create a new folder and name it ares downloads. then go into ares and select control panel and i think its in general settings to change the destination folder to the new folder you just created. remember that ares has a built in media player aswell. i would suggest going to freeware and download the codec pack or get it from microsoft.

You need to install the codec to view it without VLC. Installing GSpot and opening the video in it should show what video and audio codec was used, if an avi, say XVID codec, install and burn. A codec pack should contain it, another good pack is the Kazza Lite codec pack (full) (no relation to Kazza) and contains GSpot. Don't install multiple instances of the same codec, they can conflict.

The video plays fine on VLC media player, but wont play on Ares or Windows media player. Could there possibly be a problem with the video itself? If there is a problem, is there anything that can be done to fix it so that it can work and i can be able to convert it and burn it and watch on my home DVD player?

If the video plays fine in VLC, then there is no problem with the video.
It will not play in your Ares or WMP because you do not have the proper codec installed within them (as stated in all the previous responses). VLC comes with most codecs already within it and that is why it plays it.

So is there anything specific that i have to do or anything specific place where i have to put the movie before i convert to DVD and burn it? In other words, what do i do to ensure that it will play on my DVD player? Please forgive me since i am a newbie at this.
Right now, the video is currently on VLC media player. What do i need to do next? Again, any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

yeh your right mistycat. you really dont have to move the file. it should be downloaded to an ares file in your documents and settings. i use ares as my main filesharing program and found it to be the best so far. i also use cinvert x to dvd and found it good. dvd flik however i didnt find was up to much. it takes forever and often crashes. your file should still convert ok even though it wont play on wmp but its best to get the codec pack anyway. the one i went for was essential media codec pack from freeware. its free and will update wmp automatically when you install it.

Even though it doesnt play on ARES media player or Windows Media Player, after i convert and burn it, should it show the video on my DVD player?
I wasnt sure whether or not it would play on my home DVD player if it didnt show up on Windows Media Player or Ares.
Will the fact that it doesnt show on Ares or Windows Media Player affect whether or not it will play on my home DVD player after i convert and burn it?

after converting it to dvd format it should play fine on your dvd player. its not the file thats not working correctly, its just your media player. as jeffw224 said if it plays ok on vlc then the file is fine.

I have another question:
I have DSL. Will that make the converting and burning go any faster?

No, converting is very labor intensive and relies on CPU, less so with burning.
