DVD Recorder beeping continuesly during Encoding

I have a nec nd-3500ag 16x dual layer dvd+/-RW Recorder. Whenever I try to burn a movie, during the encoding phase before the burn, I get continues beeping from the recorder. This started a week ago. What does this mean? Please help.

Let me make it clear that the beeps come from the recorder itself, not the pc speakers.

The burner isn't involved with encoding in any way at all. It must be the internal beeper in the pc making the noise... NEC drives do make some funny noises, but never beeps.. they don't have the capability.

This sounds more like a cpu overheat warning.

Check and clean the fan and heatsink for a start and see if it continues.

I thought about it and I don't think it is the cpu overheating. The reason for this basis is that as soon as I quit the program that is encoding the beeping stops. If it were the cpu overheating, it would continue beeping untill it reached the normal low temperature.

I cleaned the fan and the heatsink and still same problem.

Run the performance monitor in task manager and see what happens when you start encoding. The old shop pc would sound overload/overheat alarms when encoding that stopped immediately as soon as the program was quit. Big pad of fluff under the cpu fan (like felt it was). You may need to run some other diagnostic tools. Have a browse of the hardware section for suggestions there.
