I burned an ISO image of a downloaded file on a cd with Nero 7 in Windows XP. Before burning, I had done checksum to see if the downloaded file on my hard drive was fine, and it was. The burn operation also seemed to go off well. But the burned CD appears blank when I insert it into into the CD/DVD drive. Windows sees nothing in it. I would really appreciate help with this.

i have seen on dvdrs that blank are seen in a pc after burning a movie the discs arnt read, so changing dvdr brand works there

this could be the same for cds not sure, first time i read this if it is the case.

are they music cds? do they play on a standalone music cd player ok, not a pc.

Thanks so much for pointing this out! These are Memorex "printable CD-R"s. The pack says "recordable fr computer CD writers". I wonder if they are not recordable for DVD writers - which is what I have on my laptop. Monday, I'm going to find a computer with a CD writer, burn another of these disks on it, and see what happens.

no a dvd+rw burner will burn a CD-r the same as a CD-RW burner

can you go into the device manager and tell us what is the brand+name of your burner?

sorry, the piont was cheap media has been known to be read when blank (nothing wrote to it) then when burnt the pc doesnt read it, this maybe the case here with cdrs.

as mentioned a dvdRW writes both cdrs and dvdrs!

sorry for not responding to your question about music player earlier. i don't have one, so can't tell.

if the cds are bad, there's nothing to be done other than throwing them away and trying to get a refund. before that, i should probably try with a different computer.

incidentally, i have had some trouble with regular data dvds (documents, not images) in the past, though never this much. i use nero usually, because of its convenient backup/update functionality. after i burn a dvd for the first time, on every subsequent occasion when i insert it into the drive for updating the file set, it takes several ejections and insertions - sometimes ten or more - before windows reads the disk properly and i can use nero. and those are different brands, not memorex.

but then, when i insert a music cd or a video cd, it plays just fine.

does this say anything to you?

thanks!

i mean, music disk or video disk. there's no problem with those as far as i can tell, whether they are cds or dvds.
