Can't disabale X3CE modchip - everything else works perfectly

I am stumped on this one.

Everything works perfectly with the chip enabled. When I try to disable the chip, either by long press on the power button or via X3 config live, the X3 logo turns red and the system reboots with the chip enabled.

I have modded at least 15 other consoles, but this is the first time I have used the X3CE. Anyone suggestions?

My setup is an Xbox v1.4,
Samsung DVD 605 rev.b,
300 GB Maxtor HD (locked),
X3CE pin header install,
X3 Pro Panel w/ usb IR mod,
X3 3294 bios loading dashboard from F:,
C drive contains only the original M$ dashboard files from AID 4.20


Any help will be greatly appreciated.
