I have a .rar file that I read is around 6 GB. I extract it using WinRAR and it reaches 70% before an error message pops up saying, "There is not enough space on the disk" and "Write error: only NTFS file system supports files larger than 4 GB"

I think I have enough space, the C: drive has 6.74 free GB. I'm running Windows XP but it says my file system is a FAT32 rather than NTFS. If I convert it to an NTFS, will I lose all the data on my hard drive? I'd really only do that as a last resort, but is it possible that I simply need more space on my computer?

the only way to extract or save any file larger than 4gig must use NTFS.

you can format into NTFS without losing anything. read THIS microsoft guide on how to convert.

That guide doesn't mention anything about potentially losing my data on my hard drive. So there is no risk of that happening?
