So I recently bought a 42" 1080p Vizio (not the best brand, but I think it looks great). However, I've read that unplugging the TV can help save a bit of $ on the bill as well as pro-long the life of the TV. So, I have my TV going through a surge protector, and when I'm done using it I turn the TV off like normal, then turn off the switch so that the TV is no longer in any type of stand-by mode.

My question is: is this safe for the TV, or will it actually damage it (by constantly closing and opening the electrical switch)?
