after googling and searching various forums for days on end i have been unable to resolve my problem, and so i have come to you with my questions that some of you more knowledgeable than me might be able to help with.
i have vista ultimate and i would like to use the included media center program for a HTPC (dvd and video files only, unfortunately no HD).
i would like to put all of my movies on a large hard drive and select which one i want with media center. so far that part works great. the part i am having issues with is the parental controls. i would also like to have it block pg-13+ movies from being played without a password, as there are younger children around the house. so far this feature works great with dvds, but i cant get it to work at all with video files.
i found that with .wmv extension files, you can click details (in Vista )and manually type in a parental rating, but that rating doesnt have any effect in WMP or WMC. also, you can only do that with .wmv files afaik.
do any of you know how i might go about adding in ratings on my video files (.avi, .mp4, .divx, etc) that WMC or WMP will respect?
thanks for the help,
Z
ps, if this is impossible, is it possible to get a password protection program, put the offending videos in a folder and protect it, and then have media center just display the password dialog when asked to access the folder? i have not been able to find a program via google as yet that will let me do that :(
