I have an old E6300 that is overclocked to 3.07ghz with 1.266v. The cooler that I am using is a Zalman CNPS 9500. The max temperature with orthos running for 12 hours is ~71 degrees C, is that too hot and would lapping the cpu help the temps?
-thanks

71C is a high CPU temp, but you're using Orthos, which gives you far higher temps than any real application would. Your temps are high, but not awful. Be advised that lapping the CPU will void your warranty. If your CPU breaks that stands you a hefty chunk. For what it's worth you may want to consider getting a more powerful CPU cooler?

Since the CPU isn't worth that much ($60 max on E-bay), i was thinking of lapping.

I did the razor test and it seems to me that mu cpu is extremely flat! I don't know whats going on, maybe its the crappy cnps9500...

Can Intel really tell if you overclocked the chip if there aren't any obvious signs (lapped, burnt, bent, IHS removed, etc)?

-thank for all your help sammorris

Nah Intel won't know unless you break it. The CNPS9500 isn't a wonderful cooler though.

No. Not too far off, but the CNPS9500 is still better.

If anyone wants to know, VTT is the voltage that the FSB uses and Vcore is the actual CPU voltage. I used google! haha

thanks sammorris

I have my chip up to 3088mhz. Is this one of the "golden chips" since it is running at 3.08ghz at "only" 1.2625v?
Is there a database to check batch codes?
Mine is: L629A321
-thanks
