My ultimate goal is to have a no disc swap for both PSX and PS2 Games.

So pretty much:
1. Turn on PS2
2. Load AR/Gameshark/or equivalent(basically any device that can do what a GS/AR can do)
3. Load Game
4. Play

So...

1. What would I need to burn and store both PSX & PS2 Games?
2. What would I need to do to the PS2 to be able to play both?
3. Is it possible to store an AR/GS or equivalent without swapping discs?
4. I hear some modchips allow you to do the same thing that AR/GSs do, do they do the same to PSX games played on a PS2?

This is quite a tall offer. I don't know if all this is possible, and if it isn't, I want to at least know what is.
While looking at PSX Gamesharks, I noticed that most of them say they only work on certain PS2 versions.

And, I'm working with a V12 Slim.
Should I get a big phatty?

Don't think your going to be able to make it work with PSX games. You'll have to load the cheat disc, swap, insert game, play on those. PSX games can't be played of the HD.

For the PS2 games though here is what I would do:

For fat PS2
-Install chip with DEV1/DEV2 support
-Install HD (preformatted in PS2 format) with preloaded games on it. Patched for cheats of couse--->link
-Boot PS2 using DEV1 or DEV2 mode
-Boot game with cheats and play

For slim PS2 (must be V12 or V13)
-Install chip with support for HD and DEV modes. (think it's only DMS4 Pro)
-Install HD Combo/HD Connect
-Install a laser fix to prevent laser from burning out
-Install HD (preformatted in PS2 format) with preloaded games on it. Patched for cheats of couse--->link
-Boot PS2 using DEV1 or DEV2 mode
-Boot game with cheats and play

Hope I was able to help you man.

no swap is not possible without a modchip. the only modchip that allows cheating devices and has flash memory is the crystal chip 2.0.

the system will check each disc when the tray is ejected. swapping the disc prevents the system check, which is why you need to do that for backup games, if you don't have a modchip.

psx games cannot be stored onto a hdd. you must use a disc. there are no files that allow psx games to be stored.

if you want the near best setup, get a fat ps2, crystal chip 2.0, a big IDE hdd, and the network adapter. ps2 games will be stored on the hdd, and all psx games will use the drive tray.

So the link I gave for cheating on HD games won't work with Independence Exploit?

it does, but rebuilding will be time consuming. you'd have to do it to each game on the hdd, if you plan on cheating on all the games.

what i did when i use ARMAX, i loaded the disc, then ran the original game disc. after it loaded, i'd save right away, and then reset and run off the hdd. the only thing that won't save is life and ammo.

Smart man right above me guys. I've never had ARMAX, always just used Swapmagic V3.8 So I've had to do quite a bit of code converting (for newly released titles). Easier methods of doing things are always welcome. ;)

Edit: If you haven't rebuilt a game before though, this would be a good time to do so. It will really expand your knowledge on the subject.
