I am new to this forum, and new to burning DVD's in general but have enough wherewithall to know what I'm doing. I've tried several programs to rip my DVD to my harddrive so I can burn it to disc, but it always stops at 50%. DVDShrink gives me a cyclic redundancy check while DVDFAB HD Decrypter 4 also stops at 50%. There are virtually no scratches on the DVD and it was made in 2006. DVD43 does not show it as being encrypted with copy-protection and AnyDVD does not show it as such, either. I've spent many hours trying to figure this out on my own but I thought I would seek the advice from experts.
Thank you very much for any help you may have to offer.
Thank you so much for your response. Why do you think DVD43 is a bad tool? I am uninstalling it now. I'm going to delete the folder in my program files in addition to uninstalling the program and hopefully there will be no traces of it left. I knew there was something wrong with that hideous smiley face on the bottom of my screen. I got rid of AnyDVD in conjunction with DVD43 because it prompted me to do so. Hmm.
You may be right, this might be a bad disc. I don't understand how that's possible though because it plays fine on my DVD player. I simply can't back it up. I managed to painstakingly and time consumingly copy the movie to my hard drive using dvd fab (was a long drawn out process after I chose to ignore the errors.
I tried a new method after reading a helpful thread about FixVTS and tried to clean the files that I "successfully" copied onto my harddrive using DVDFab. When I tried using DVDShrink, it stopped at 50% again. I have no idea why. Have I tried everything with this disc? Has anyone else ever had this problem.
And for the regulars, I've done some extensive research on this website before posting and tried every option I have read about thusfar. This is really frustrating.
I have visited that thread and I'm just not sure what's happening. Surely AnyDVD (which I've read is probably the best) would have recognized it as being copy-protected with something, is that right? DVDShrink does not recognize it as being encrypted, either. So is it safe to say the reason I can't copy this disc is not because of copy protection?
Because it does'nt work well and screws up just about everything else

May need to use vob blanker and remove all non video files. Here's a guide to vob blanker

If it is a commercial dvd, the links shown will allow you to back up. Just make sure the backing up programs are up to date.

Anydvd works in the background and decrypts the disc on the fly, that is why dvd shrink sees the disc as having no copy protection. Yet I believe there exists on some discs a data sub routine that disables programs as dvd shrink and is not visible to Anydvd. This is why I suggested to use vob blanker and remove the non video files ( I believe they are the sub routines) fixvts is helpful to use after dvdfabhd, as it does not produce clean rips and the toc ( table of contents) need some additional help.
