I am trying to install a Duo Ultra 3 on a slim ps2, but I cannot get 4 of the points to stick. They are all wires that go to those small gold circles. I have scrapped off the resin on top of them and the solder still won't stick. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just received my Duo 3 Ultra and it only came with the chip and a short piece of solder.

Can you tell me what size wire I need to pick up from the local electronic store?

It's called "kynar wire" and is very thin. About 30cm is more than enough (I bought 4 100m rolls years ago so I can do pretty different colour wiring). For the ground and +v wires keep them as short as possible.. and I used a strand of telephone hookup wire because it has to carry a fair whack of power.. It's heavier gauge so lower resistance. Lots of buggy performance can be traced to a poor ground.

Also buy some lead-free mulitcore solder while you are there.

Good luck soldering points B G H and I. I can not get them little ******* to stick for nothing. I said screw it and ordered the HD USB Advance instead of dealing with this. I will use the chips on the older non-slim ps2's instead, because I can actually solder to the point they give you, stupid slim ps2!

This gives me a warm fuzzy because I will be using this on a v7 39001 ps2. I also read somewhere that I should get 30 awg for the regular wires and 24 awg for the pwr & ground. Can someone verify that since the local 'electronic store' website only has the color and not the gauge of the wire listed.

Also, could someone suggest a good mounting spot on the v7 board?
