I use dvd-shrink for all my backups and have been contemplating trying dvd-rebuilder for a while now. It wasn't until I read the guides and stickied threads that I started to become hesitant.

From what I understand at the very least I need a program called cce used in conjunction with dvd-rebuilder? Apparently the free version of cce isn't sufficient and I would have to get the pay version just to have a finished project with rebuilder? Also most guides include 4 to 5 additional programs that I've never heard of before, are all of these optional?

I began this endeavor with the intention of using rebuilder instead of shrink for a movie I have that requires heavy compression. The files are already ripped and cleaned; now all I have to do is compress and burn.

I was under the impression that dvd-rebuilder could create a dvd-5 compliant file by itself. So before I start clicking old links with outdated info I was hoping to get a professional opinion or at least a nudge in the right direction.

You can.
DVD Rebuilder comes with HCenc encoder which is an excellent encoder. If you wish to purchase CCE, Rebuilder supports that one as well as a couple of other ones.

I can vouch for HC encoder, it works very well indeed, and is multi-core capable too..

Thanks for the quick responses; I think I may have mistaken some of the different processes rebuilder uses for additional programs.

I have a few more questions though

On the AD software page there's two different versions of rebuilder v0.98.2 as the latest stable and v0.98.1 which is listed as older. On the rebuilder homepage the latest freeware version is v0.98.1. Should I just download the older version from the AD software section?

I'm assuming the difference between the .1 and .2 may just be semantics but I?m not sure

I?ve also read about an option for a 1-click process or a 3 step process. Since I'm new to this 1-click is probably the best way to avoid screwing something up? My cpu is a 2.6 p4 so I would like to get this right the first time instead of finding out 4-5 hours later that I downloaded an unstable version or forgot to select the right options.

I don't have the free version but looking at the Rebuilder homepage, I see v0.98.2.

My mistake, the homepage link in AD?s software section brings you here
http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/
The newest freeware version there is from 2005 v0.98.1

I thought that was the actual home page but apparently this is
http://www.jdobbs.com/
Low and behold v0.98.2 updated December 15th 2006

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your help
