I've had a problem with my ps2 for a while. Here is what the problem is.

I have a ps2 version scph-79001, it has a duo 3 modchip inside that I got preinstalled when I bought the system. I've been using the system with no problems but suddenly the game froze. I tried to shut the ps2 off by holding the power button but it won't work so I unplugged it from the back. I tried starting it up again but when I powered it on, i hear a clicking sound and nothing would come up on the screen, all black. I left it off with everything unplugged for about 2 hours and it worked again. This was about 2 weeks ago. Now I can play for about 10-20 mins before it freezes and it stops working. I don't know what problem is can anyone help?

good luck getting help around here. I don't know what it is about the ps2 forums, but its very hard to get a direct answer.

on the xbox forums people are very eager to help whenever you have a problem and that in turn makes you want to help others.

I've been browsing the ps2 sites and have noticed a lot of threads where lots of people viewed the post but didn't respond. Now I know a percentage of those people didn't have the answer, but it can't be everyone.

it really sucks.

I'd think that the modchip is causing something. Can that be disabled? Is the fan still running? Maybe that stripped. Open it up and turn it on, do you see the fan running, any smoke, excessive heat on the heatsync?

The fan is working. The system feels warm but not really hot to the point where it burns me. Whenever this happens during play, the music stops playing and I know that it stopped working. After I restart its goes all black and I can't do anything. Can't disable the chip. This only happened whenever I play my backups. I've played an original game and never had this problem.

If this is only happening when a backup is played,
The media you are using for your backups is probably dirty/damaged.
