So I bought a Duo3 ultra modchip for my ps2 v5/6 and attempted to solder it on. (This is my first modchip soldering attempt, although I think I did a pretty good job). Anyway after I soldered it on I reassembled my ps2 then tried to insert a disc. The problem I got was that the eject button would not eject the disc fully, it would only come out about an inch and the the mechanism for the tray to automatically go back in kicked in. The screen loaded with the ps2 logo and stuff that it usually does but that was all it could do. I tried putting a disc in manually by unscrewing the top of the tray and just putting the disc in, but the laser would not function and the disc did not spin. I tried resoldering it about 5 times, each time checking for any bridged connections and pretty much resoldering every single point.

Do I have a defective chip or is it most likely because of my amateur soldering skills?

Leave the top cover off your ps2 when you test it. Make sure the reset eject cable is away from the top cover. See how the tray functions then...something might have got pinched when u put the top on.
