hda/hdl recognises ps2 cd/dvd backups?

hda/hdl recognises ps2 cd/dvd backups?

i am thinking rather then using swap magic and swapping back up dvd/cds all the time. i am thinking to purchase the network adapter to put into my old fat style ps2 to use with a spare HDD i got. i understand i need to buy either HDA/HDL ? but HDL is preferred?

but when i insert my backup cds to copy from will HDL recognise them or HDA /HDL will only copy from original ps2 cd/dvd games ?
