Hi. I've been trying to download the latest firmware from liteon's website but I think it's not available anymore. Does anyone know where I can get it. I updated maybe last 2005 and it can't read my newer dvd+-Rs.

Thanks

I asked the questioins so to undrstand your issue or problem. Is there one
I have 3 liteon 5005 units. At present they have the orig drives and work fine

They have 098 firmware and I would not go beyond 098
I have burned many different manufactures disks from 4x to 16x in thjem and have no problems

Go here for possible info on these units -- ilo is a liteon
http://www.normediasolutions.com/portfolio/

If you are having disk problems,it is more than likely it would be the orig DDW drive in the unit. Nnot a Firmware issue.

Had an old LVW-5005 that the DVD died on it several years ago. Been sitting in a box in the basement ever since. Was going to throw it out, but decided to try something. Took the Opterite DVD recorder from my desktop and threw it in the unit. Works better than ever!

Then went and found the 098 upgrade that LSCHG mentions here:

http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buye.../liteontips.htm

Put it on a CDR, stuck it in...viola! Everything upgraded perfectly! Wo wo! Am a happy camper now!

I would think the drive you used was a liteon or a clone etc that was on the approved list for all functions

Check these sites for more info --- ILO is a liteon and the info is reevent.

I think you are correct as far as the clone functions. It is an Optorite DD0203 as listed here: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Print.aspx?ArticleId=7978

All I know is that it works in the unit just fine. I've been playing with it all day, burning copies of original Disney VHS tapes onto DVD and was pleased by the output quality and the absence of that annoying Macrovision stuff I used to have when I tried this...now it burns perfect copies without color fading and flashing...or any audio problems.

I'm just glad that I didn't throw out the unit years back when the original drive failed. Back then I didn't even know you could rom flash these things and used it as a stock unit.

I had to make a few mods to get the DVD to fit into the cabinet, remove the drive from the computer metal enclosure, grind down a little plastic here and there to make it fit properly so the eject door would be aligned, and had to refasten the original silver faceplate to the dvd drive with double-backed foam tape...but now it looks like new and works even better.

I am so happy right now I could just cry.....

Not to kep it going

Liteon also is Taiwanese I assume it works on all functions like Fast Forward [FF] If so You should post that info to [Harmaker] at the first 2 sites I gave above, so he might add it to the list of drives to use

Glad you got the 5005 going OK the 5005 is one of the simplest to replace the drine
Firmware 098 [hacked] will bypass the analog MV on tapes
Your 5005 and some other units are no longer made and are well worth some effort to maintain in operation
I have 3 ?5005 and 3 - 5045 and 2 -iloR04 and 2--iloRHD04units all with replaced drives

If you get a chance go over the sites given You might want to think about the units digital compliance.and pick up a DVD drive that works on all functions
ebay can be a source you need to heck often
