I was just reading the guide (PS2 Slimline guide: external USB hard drive & game playing (NO CHIP REQ'D) by MasterChu.) and through the threads...

I'd like to know are there any specific playback issues with PS2 games? I read somewhere that apparently because it's USB 1.1, the game will lag and the music will be choppy.

Is this true? Is it possible to have games running at perfect speed like if you were to play through disc format or it's impossible with the HDD?

I have both a ide hdd and a usb hdd and of course I much prefer the IDE hdd.
On the USB drive its mostly movies (cutscenes)that will lag, the gameplay can be fine.

I have a lot of games that will run perfectly on the USB drive, and there are some that the movies will lag but the gameplay is fine.

At one time there was a wonderful list at jaydium.servehttp.com, but it seems it is no longer available.
There is a hdd list at sksapps.com that also has usbadvance games listed on it as people add it.

It had listed all the games that work fine. A lot of the games require you change the DNAS or IOPRP in them to get them to work.

Personally the best solution is to find a FAT PS2 and use a IDE hdd.
