Problems Playing Back No Country for Old Men

I backed up No Country for old men using Ripitforme and then burned it using DVDDecrytper. The movie seems to play fine in my DVD drive on my PC, but doesn't play on my stand alone DVD player. Any suggestions?

Burn with Imgburn and use good media as Taiyo Yudens. If using +R discs, booktype to dvd-rom. Burn no more than 1/2 of disc speed rating.

if it plays on your PC and doesn't on your stand alone then it's a media problem! Use better media! Taiyo Yuden is the best..... then Verbatim! Everything that iluvendo said is great advice! but know that it's your media that your stand alone doesn't like. very simple solution.... better media-better results!

Well said Ihoe...well said.

Not enough can be said about using good quality blank media. It's the easiest part of DVD burning to control, and the single largest cause for playback problems.

Pick up the good stuff, Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Booktype to DVD-ROM as suggested by iluvendo, and see the difference it makes.

Only problem with the better media arguement is that I have played backup copies burnt on the same media hundreds of times. I will try buring a new copy and if that doesn't work I will look into some better DVDs.

Something that needs to be understood is that many namebrand's sublet the production of thier discs to different manufacuters. It's entirely possible to have two spindles of Memorex (as an example) sitting next to each other on the shelf that code out as different manufacturer's.

Not to mention, dodgy media is dodgy media.

I have seen one spindle of Memorex code out to 3 different manufacturers! One might work for you but the other two might be a problem....... so there is your answer for the "but it always worked before!!! why not now?" comment.

Well the memorex DVDs (all from different spindles) that I have been using for the past 3 years have never been a problem. Im not going out and buying different media for one movie. Guess I will just watch it on my PC. Thanks I guess guys.

well..... I got more bad news for you....... as your Memorex gets older.... they degrade! don't expect them to play as they did when you first burned them. You will find out the hard way... when your copies don't play in the future. It's been a fact that Memorex don't stand up to time. If they are still playing for you ... then you are lucky.... maybe your Memorex was made by a good manufacturer like RICOHJPN. I still have some original Memorex that I burned 5 yrs ago because it was made by RICOHJPN and not CMC MAGS! If you have any CMC MAGS Memorex then you will eventually see a playing problem! As Ihoe said these are well known and lamented for degrading quicker than most.

Just read the link that Ihoe provided.

I also happen to have some old RICOHJPN's that still play beautifully.
