At the moment i have 5mb adsl internet connection. What i want to do is find a router to buy that will allow me to seperate my internet speed between different pc's.

so simply say i had 2 pc's conencted to a router, i was downloading alot on one of them and the other would suffer slow internet because of it.

My wish is to buy a router that lets me set a speed for each computer to have say like my pc has 3mb and my other 2mb. im sure there are some out there, maybe cisco?

Please help me!

Downstream that's nearly impossible, it's usually only possible upstream. The only way I could think of doing it would be to use a switch and two routers, so you could split the WAN signal from your modem to either, and then set a quality of service downstream limit on both routers, using 3rd party firmware like Tomato.

thanks for replying.

I dont think i could afford purchasing all that equipment to be honest as i just wanted one router for all. But i see where your coming from i think. I had a look at your profile and saw you had a WRT54GL router which you could do alot to and see you have the tomatoe upgrade, i like the idea of prioritising the program control inside it, this is something that would be of interest to me.

So i think i'll buy one of them for sure, but i wanted to ask the prioritising programs option this applies to wireless devices aswell as ethernet connected right?

EDIT: Do you know best place to purchase one in uk?

The wonderful thing about the Tomato firmware is that its Quality of service rules dictate a maximum percentage of the available download bandwidth for certain protocols. For example if you set HTTP downloads to low priority, but web browsing to high - when someone's not browsing the web you can download files at full speed, but when someone is, the download speeds get cut so web browsing isn't really slow. Given this, you probably won't need the setup I mentioned earlier.
I got my WRT54GL from Ebuyer a long time ago, but Amazon seem to have it quite cheap: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Linksys-WRT54GL-...r/dp/B000ETX928

Oh, and I'm pretty sure this QoS applies to wireless and wired connections - you can even view a pie chart to see how many connections are in the relevant group, and which IP address they're coming from/going to.
