Hey guys, just a quick question.

I just basically want to copy DVD9 films onto DVD5 with better quality results(something about CCE passes coming into play) than DVD Shrink and have control over the output in audio quality etc(if that is possible)

Is DVD Rebuilder the program for me or should i be looking at something else?

Greg, if quality is what you seek from dvd-9 to dvd-5, you are at the right place and rebuilder is what you want.

Indeed. plus it's dead easy to configure, it'll work very well on that Q6600 Greg :)

Q6600 FTW ;)

Right, i got the free version and when popping in DVD's i get this error in the program.

Run-time error "52":

Bad filename or number

I thought it was to do with copy protection on the DVD's so what i did was use DVD Decrypter to get all the copy protection of and then mount with Daemon Tools.

The preparation stage worked fine.

When i get to the encode stage i get this error,

Path name/item.ecl is not an ECL for CCE Basic Trial Version.

Shall i upgrade CCE?

Why not try the free HC Encoder with Rebuilder that is included first.

I have CCE basic and it was well worth the $58.00 price.

Try ripping in file mode and opening the files directly with Rebuilder instead of mounting the image with Daemon Tools and see how that works.

The Run-Time52 error is usually related to a bad rip

Hi Guys!

I am new to Afterdawn, so please excuse me if this is a stupid question. Some time ago I backed up a 3-hour DVD movie with CloneDVD2 which was all I had at the time. The quality was just mediocre (in the area of around 65%). The original has since disappeared. My question is this: If I use DVD-RB/CCE to re-encode the backup, will the quality be improved or will it be just the same as the backup?

Actually, probably worse. You can't put back what's already lost, and anytime you use a lossy codec, well, you'll have more losses.

Creaky-

Have you used HC 0.23 yet? I am wondering how it compares to CCE speed-wise on a quad core...

yeah i used it a couple of times; no proper timings though as i was defragging all the hard drives at the same time; as for quality the two times were around the 49% compression mark; very good results indeed

Noob question but i am tired.

How would one go about putting in hc 0.23 into dvd-rb?

I checked the config bit and can't see HC path but only CCE etc.

in C:\Program Files\DVD-RB PRO\Encoders\HC Encoder i renamed those files out of the way then dropped in the files from 0.23, make sure you rename the new HC executable to hcbatch.exe and restart dvd-rb, go into setup and point DVD-RB at the path above - all done

hmmm, shouldn't be, especially as HC is a free encoder.., though i've only used the Pro version of DVD-RB so not 100% sure.

Any of the above recommendations above will give you top quality, however it's time to start a thread to answer one simple question. Which DVD encoder produces the best picture quality. There are some who insist that Procoder is the best and perhaps most say that CCE is the best, but a growing number of people are moving toward HC Encoder which by the way is completely free. So isn't it time that a group gathered to work together to at least try and dispel what is truth and what is just fan-boy support?

Sorry back on topic. DVD-Rebuilder regardless of encoder choice is only in competition with itself and the encoders used.

HC Encoder has always worked well for me both on Windows and Linux with Wine.

And it's hard to beat the price or quality... Hank has done an excellent job on his encoder.
